Video and Sound

The video card in your computer is responsible for the visual images you see on your monitor, and the sound card is responsible for reproducing the sounds that you hear through your speakers. There are two main choices for these components: integrated and non-integrated. Integrated components are built right into the motherboard. Non-integrated components come in the form of add-on cards.

• Integrated components are cheaper, but harder to upgrade.
• Add-on cards allow for playing 3-D games, image manipulation, and richer sound, but are more expensive.
